The easiest way for a government to trigger catastrophic economic collapse is not war. It is also not sharply raising taxes and compliance costs. That will damage the economy, but it is unpopular, so politically difficult.
The easiest way to do it is initially very popular and solves an immediate problem, which is probably why it has happened so often over the past 2,600 years.
The Lydia, Roman, Byzantium, Ottoman and other empires collapsed after doing it. It sparked the French, Russian and Chinese revolutions, gave rise to Nazism, resulted in more than 100 million deaths in the 20th century, and more recently wrecked the economies of Argentina, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.
Given these historical examples, sensible countries would have firm limits in place to stop their governments from repeating the same mistake. Australia has not.
Could it trigger economic collapse here? Absolutely, it could. Both Labor and Liberal governments have practised milder versions of it for the past 20 years. Concerningly, a more aggressive version remains the quickest and easiest way for a Socialist-Marxist party in government to achieve its objective.
We urgently need mechanisms to stop it – to stop the digital creation of money to cover deficits. Classic Liberals is the only party committed to installing those safeguards.
Your future—and your children’s—depends on it. Can you afford not to support Classic Liberals?
